Alan Aukeman joined Ryan Associates in 2005. His work has ranged from performing initial planning studies and assembling permitting and construction document packages to providing project oversight and construction administration. Alan earned his MLA degree from the University of Virginia where he was a member of the University’s Landscape and Arboretum Committee. He was also awarded the American Society of Landscape Architects’ Student Honor Award and was a first place team member in the Howland Competition. Prior to attending the University of Virginia, Alan taught as an adjunct professor of English in Iowa and Michigan. Alongside his teaching, he also worked as an estate gardener and household manager and gained a close understanding of the maturation of a designed landscape and its evolving maintenance needs.
