Skip Burck and Tom Ryan worked with Cambridge Seven Architects, basing the design of this regional destination at the Gurnee Mills Mall on the characteristic features of the Midwestern landscape. Hedgerows, windbreaks and the patterns of field crop cultivation are evoked in the plantings and landforms around the mall. The plantings and earthwork at each entrance evoke a different theme in the Midwestern landscape, heightening the entry experience and making the familiar new.
